I got my licence back in May and understandably I’m still building hours and confidence and nervous of making mistakes & generally overthinking the consequences.
I flew from Wellesbourne this afternoon and it wasn’t until after some time I realised my transponder was still in standby. Now of course I was well below the 3500ft portion of Birmingham’s CTA (2000ft) but I’d just like to be reassured I’m not going to get into any bother and Birmingham have just assumed I’ve infringed based on the lack of altitude data (I have SkyDemon logs to essentially prove my innocence).
Conversely if I am going to get in bother, when can I expect to hear about it.
Sorry if this sounds ridiculous but it’s always helpful to hear from some wiser sages.

Although you are always supposed to turn your transponder on if you have one, they won't prosecute you or come after you if you forget.
Many aircraft don't have transponders.

They'll only look to track you down if you were in a TMZ or they had some other evidence of an airspace breech.

Air traffic seeing a non-transponder or non-Mode S/C aircraft will assume that it is operating outside, or above or below CAS until observed to be otherwise.
