This crises has been going on now for some 6 months; with a bit of luck it is over in another 6.

The notion that people should retrain from being a performer in an art which has stood the test of time into something that provides a small segment of the population with a way to earn a crust for some years grates, especially when it is suggested by the f*ckl*ss who only were able to manoeuvre themselves into positions thanks to their ancestors rather than skill.

Yeah yeah rub it in. Anyone got a spare elbow? I need at least three per arm. Perhaps ballet would help.

....

But no mere Sais would be allowed to come there to help .. :(

back on track! let's consider the steel-workers, ship-builders and coal-miners, among others, who were asked......nay,told their jobs were going to disappear completely.....no Jarrow marches for them, no relocate to where the alternative site was....'cos there were none. re-skill or eke out an aimless life on the dole was their only choice. -so, remind us what artists bring to the table.....entertainment! -that's what! Musicians who want to continue their art, can take up busking (many do exceedingly well at it.)
I know of at least one young hopeful who left school and went to Drama College, When he realised that he was only one of thousands with the ability to Act, he took a job as a hospital porter.
Taking in each -other's washing , playing and self-indulgence is not going to make a wealthy country.

Sigh, if your job disappears for ever, retraining is the only option. If your job is temporarily suspended for reasons outside your control you need support until it comes back. You might be able to find a way of doing that for yourself but as many others are in the same boat you probably won't.
