Yes, DO-160 is the environmental spec for airborne eqpt,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DO-160

50 year old aircraft now have modern batteries and starters, as well as modern equipment. If they do still have 50 year old Cessna avionics then by all means switch them off at start up (if they still work).

My G5 switched itself off in flight , no idea why. When back on the ground it powered up again after holding the Power switch for 30 secs.
Anyone else had this ?

Is it on the latest software version?

Anecdotally it was a problem with an earlier version that was subsequently fixed.

If you keep your finger on the button for 19 seconds in the air it should turn back on.
Not had anything like this happen with mine fitted in November last year.

Well thanks Guys. I was about to ring my engineers and discuss twin G5's and an autopilot. With all the stories of inflight shutdowns I think I'll just stick to my six pack and keep renewing my vacuum drive shaft every six years as per the Tempest service bulletin.

We've put two G5s and a GFC500 in the Mooney, to go with the GTN. Brilliant system.

Happy to discuss directly if you want.
