Easy to remember from my schooldays.
'You can't count an amount'. When referring to people etc.

A large amount of people attended. About 35 tons.
It may have been less' but was probably fewer.

I'd sooner be affected than impacted. A horrible term almost universally used now.

I always think of bowel trouble when someone declares they have been impacted.
