Some interesting law here.
The offence [of manslaughter by an unlawful act] is made out if it is proved that the accused intentionally did an unlawful and dangerous act from which death inadvertently resulted.

In judging whether the act was dangerous the test is not did the accused recognise that it was dangerous but would all sober and reasonable people recognise its danger.

Danger, in the context of risk, is a relative concept. Is an activity that many people willingly perform every day, but is nevertheless 1000 times more risky than the deceased might have anticipated, dangerous?

They don’t say that you can’t speculate, but *ask* that there is no speculation

“As part of this investigation we have to consider whether there is any evidence of any suspected criminality and as a result of our enquiries we have today, Wednesday 19 June 2019, arrested a 64-year-old man from the North Yorkshire area on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act. He is assisting with our enquiries and has been released from custody under investigation.

“This matter therefore is still subject to a live investigation and I would ask the media and members of the public to refrain from speculation, as this could cause additional distress to the families involved as well as potentially hinder the investigation.

“As is standard practice, we will not be releasing any further information as to the identity of the individual who has been arrested unless that person is charged to appear in court and again would discourage any speculation in relation to this.”

It does make you wonder, if they are asking people not to spectculate then why publicise the arrest

Before we had instant social media and 24 hour news channels did they notify the public of arrests ?

So they can ask people not to speculate? (Note the press release was on Twitter.)
