I’m a convert now. Everybody always says it’s a lot easier than you think it will be, and they are correct. If you’ve never “gone foreign” you may be missing out on a great adventure.

If you want to have somebody experienced with you to hold your hand the first time that’s OK, but it can be done by just getting on with it. Skydemon made it easy with submitting flight plans and GAR (other systems are available :) )

We just wish we lived closer to Dover...

I must have helped introduce at least twenty pilots to the adventure of flying abroad over the years. Your sentiments echo exactly what people say after the trip: it's more fun and easier than they had imagined beforehand.

A comment on the write-up on the first day of the return flight: in Sweden, ATS really wants you to file a flight plan also for domestic flights. As @Boecopter writes, it's not mandatory, but it's a bit extra hassle for the controller if you fly without an ATS flight plan. So we usually oblige. And, as the blog also says, Search and Rescue is a service that you want fast if you ever need it at all.

Anyone else planning a flying adventure in Sweden can send me a PM for tips. If you pass through Gothenburg, I'd love to meet you.
