Awesome Jenny, thanks!
Interesting, some of the plates, Odiham TAC to PARZ 27 is particularly interesting, overhead at 3000 QNH, descending outbound Track 113 to a platform of 1910 QNH 1500 QFE at 11d, (Hambledon) turning inbound to pick up 274 at 1500 over Guidford. Finally descending at 4.7D. All outside CAS.
Worth knowing if you're wandering around the area.

It's where a radar operator gives you precise instructions to follow a glide path down to the runway. It's all done verbally. The pilot doesn't speak - only listens whilst the controller gives continuous updates.

It's very cool - did it at Lyneham a few times before the closed.

As Stevelup says. Consider it a cross between a very up-market SRA with accurate and continuous glidepath information on top, instead of the advisory heights/altitudes. It's also Cat 1 (200ft/800m RVR) but needs practise (on both sides).

Pilots used to prefer them to ILS as someone else does all the work!

Yeah only been doing it for about 20 years
Before they put the TACAN in they had an NDB (ODM) and used to do approaches with that.
We used to do 'Unified Approach Control' for Odiham from Farnborough until the RAF declared UDI and put their own radar in at Odiham about 15 years ago..

Precision Approach Radar (PAR).
The controller has electronic glidepath information for the talkdown so it's classed as a 'precision' approach with min DH of 200ft.
In the short period we had a localiser only approach at Farnborough and still had the PAR, I made sure the LLZ was set up to coincide with the PAR azimuth scan thereby allowing crews to fly the LLZ with me giving them instructions to maintain the glidepath hence it was 'almost' a proper ILS approach 8) .
