I'm glad your experience was seamless, however mine was far from it with the DWP and HMRC clearly not communicating with each other.
Started the process 3 months before the pension was due, it took 10 weeks to prise the special number required to actually pay the missing contributions out of them.
It took a further 3 months for HMRC and DWP to agree I had paid, although the gov website showed a full NI record within a month. Month 7 from starting I actually got the correct payment and later that month the back payments due.
