Hi,

Just sharing this in case it helps other UK PPLs who wish to get an FAA certificate based on their UK License. After a long search for an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) who does the paperwork and meetings via a Zoom video meeting, I received a recommendation for Jim Pitman. I found the process simple and Jim easy to work with.

I have no association or fiduciary interest in Jim or his work. Just sharing to help others who like me may have struggled to find and engage an FAA DPE to get an FAA license issued.

Cheers

It is my understanding that the FAA has essentially called a halt to not-in-person grants of 61.75 certificates now. If you find somebody that is prepared to do it, the chances are that (s)he didn't get the memo and you should proceed with caution.

That’s annoying if they have all been stopped.

Boston FSDO states online that they only do Zoom meetings so I have emailed them to confirm if this works for foreign license verifications.

Looking in the forums here it seems this was also possible through a FAA DPE if one could be found in the U.K.

Anyone got any contacts please?

There was one (Adam House), but I am led to believe that he like others have had their wings clipped in this respect.

Not so much an advantage, but a lot more convenient if your need for a 61.75 is to allow you to fly an N-reg aircraft based over here with no restrictions on where you take it.

I was in the process of setting up for zoom meeting however was advised just recently by that DPE that the FAA have stopped this route (which was introduced doing Covid).

I'm trying to contact Adam House to meet up with him in the UK (he's helped me in the past).
