Hi - question came up whether a restricted Flight Instructor can conduct the reval by experience, where the instructor holds FCL.945 privileges. Does anyone have any information and a reference to the relevant legislation. The aircraft, if it matters, is on an LAA permit and the person wanting the revalidation is a member of the aircraft group. That would be a great help!

Thanks

Also couldn't that instructor be a LAPL only, restricted, and have no 945? At the end of the day they are still a qualified FI. The only thing they cannot do is then sign the license.

This is an interesting question resulting from convolutions in the regulations.

Breaking things down into their constituent parts:

An FI can sign the pilot's licence for Revalidation only if he has carried out all or some of the 'one hour with an instructor'.

Without being obtuse, that means that he cannot sign if he hasn't flown with the pilot.

So, if he has Part FCL.945 privileges on his licence it rather implies that he must be allowed to carry out the flying part too, otherwise he cannot use the privilege, so they wouldn't print it on his licence.

Or am I being too simple :cyclops:
