Hi flyers,

I just completed my skills test for IR(R). I tried searching through the CAA website to find the process for submitting for IR(R) application form. I couldn't find much there. Searching on the internet I found a PDF here https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SRG1125Issue11enabled.pdf to the form but thats the same form that my ATO gave me printed. I only found IR forms here https://www.caa.co.uk/General-aviation/Pilot-licences/Applications/Ratings/Paper-rating/Apply-for-an-IR-(A)-using-paper-forms/

So, could someone who has already went through this process please provide guidance?

Is the process for IR(R) rating available only via Postal?
- Where should I post the application form?
- How much is the fees?
- In the pdf there was mention about return via secured post but didnt provide any information on if I need to pay for it or not. Also, how to pay .
- What all documents do I need to include in the post?

Or can I use the online form SRG3108 ?
- I couldnt find IR(R) as option in the rating dropdown in the online form.

Thanks in advance

I don't think you can apply online for the IMC/IR(R).

Post your SRG 1125 to:

Civil Aviation Authority - Personnel Licensing Department
Aviation House
Beehive Ring Road
Crawley
West Sussex
RH6 0YR

The fee is here and also contained in ORS 5 No. 374.

The form says you have to pay for a secure courier if you choose that option, but it does not say how much. The fee to the UK is £15 and detailed here. The courier fee is added to the application fee and charged to your credit card.

Send the SRG 1125, examiner report, your logbook, certified copy of your licence, and certified copy of your ID.

I'm disappointed to hear your ATO/Examiner didn't guide you in this respect. In my opinion, their job isn't done until you have the rating on your licence. I'm an FE, drop me another message if you get stuck again and I'll help out..

I was drafting a similar response earlier and one paragraph was almost identical to this.

Maybe not the examiner but I think the independent instructor, DTO or ATO should have a guiding hand on the application tiller. I certainly do for my instrument students and recently when examining RTF practical tests I have found myself sorting out all manner of applications.

More importantly, well done on gaining your IRR :thumright:

There is no responsibility for the examiner to involved with the application process.

Does it hurt to check the applicant knows what to do to get their licence issued, or rating you've tested them for endorsed? You have just relieved them of a chunk of cash after all..

Maybe there is no responsibility per se, but how long does it take? We're supposed to be the ones in the know when it comes to this kind of stuff so offering guidance isn't unreasonable IMO..

Not sure if you've had your IR(R) issued or not, but I applied for mine a few months back.

Wasn't sure how to apply (as there appeared to be no way of applying on the Portal).

I was told to apply on form SRG1125 and scan the form and supporting evidence and email to licenceapplications@caa.co.uk

Two weeks later I had an email saying my application was rejected - as I needed to apply on the Portal...!!

I phoned the CAA again, saying I was simply following their own departments advice in applying via email. The lady I spoke to was very helpful, and asked me to respond to the email I received with words to that effect, and I received my new licence 3 weeks later.

Hope that helps

Here is my experience as of today. I spoke to the CAA to confirm what I needed to send in.

You have to apply for for your IMC IR(R) license, initial application, in the post. You need to submit the following to the CAA in the post, although I am sure you can email docs too, the chap I spoke to said post them.

Examiner Report SRC 1176 Flight / Skills Test Form https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SR ... nabled.pdf

Aeroplane Application SRC 1125 for IMC IRR
https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/SR ... nabled.pdf

A certified copy of your license with specific wording
https://www.caa.co.uk/General-aviation/ ... certified/

Either your logbook or a certified copy of the pages covering your instrument training and the front cover with your name and address on

Post this along with your fee £127 plus £15 for courier if you sent your log book
https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/37 ... 2%20v2.pdf

I am sending it tomorrow, should be 10 working days to get the endorsement back and I’ll update if it all works or fails either way.
