Yes, I think you are correct. IIRC it was somehow mixed up with the JAR licence issue which introduced the daft idea of a licence having an expiry date.


It came in long before the JAR stuff! ;-) I had a 10 year FRTOL issued in 1996 as part of my PPL (the only one available at the time!).

Mine wasn’t. Both my pre-JAR PPL and FRTOL were non-expiring, but they were issued together in one go when I qualified.
