Can anybody tell me if there are any special hoops to jump through to allow me to rent/fly solo a Portuguese registered PA28 in Portuguese airspace on a EASA or UK PPL/IR licence ?

Any advice or personal anecdotes gratefully received

As long as your licence is valid and we are still in EASA you're good to go subject to the facility you're hiring from is happy to let you hire from them.

There should be no licensing issues.

If we are out of EASA it will be back to how it was in 1999 pre-JAR.

As FD said, that's why several ATPLs are moving their state of licence so they can have an Irish licence but fly an Austrian jet across Europe.

Nobody really knows......there have been some contingency arrangements discussed here but like all the other contingency arrangements they'll go live without any testing if it comes to it.
