(Old) microlight rating renewal?

A chap I’ve met is planning to renew his old flex wing microlight rating. He last flew in the ‘80’s/ early ‘90’s thus his licence is an old valid-for-life poo brown UK PPL(A) containing just a group D (microlights) rating.

He’s well aware and happy that he will need to do as much retraining as required to get him up to speed after such a long lay off. However the question is can anyone help with what the minimum mandatory requirements are to renew his rating? Particularly with regard to administrative actions required for his very old licence and rating. Can the rating just be renewed as-is even though the term Group D disappeared along with Groups A&B etc?

Cheers, JB.
