Hi
I have EASA PPL.
I was flying club PA28's but als own an Aeronca Champ on LAA permit to fly.
My recent medical has thrown up a query about obstructive sleep apnoea and I am having to see a specialist again to re assess diagnosis. This was originally a referral in 2010 due to my snoring. So currently no medical to fly on my EASA PPL.

Do I have any option(s) to be able to fly my aircraft?

edited as my first post was inaccurate..

Assuming that the Sleep Apnoea question does not in itself affect your driving licence, (it might be a mandatory reporting thing for the DVLA) then this...

suggests to me that you can self declare and fly your LAA aircraft on your existing EASA PPL.

Thanks for the response.

When I first looked at this, I thought I was stuffed to fly my aircraft on current licence, but on second reading I think I will be ok :)

Alternatively you can declare your medical fitness to the CAA (subject to certain conditions) by making a Pilot Medical Declaration. Such medical declarations are only valid for non-EASA aircraft and for use within UK airspace.


As I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnoea, my GP is ok with me driving and doesn't see a problem. Saw them 2 weeks ago.

Yes, it was this bit hidden down the bottom of the same document that says
Flying Non-EASA aircraft with a UK-issued EU Part-FCL PPL or LAPL
A pilot with a UK-issued EU Part-FCL PPL or LAPL may fly Non-EASA aircraft within UK airspace in conjunction with this declaration.


ISTR that there is a temporary exemption to let people fly EASA a/c on a self declaration and an EASA PPL too (until next April), but I can't find it.
