I have a FAA PPL and wish to do some flying in the UK (I am a resident here), I have a class 1 CAA and FAA medical. What do I need to do to fly legally in . G-reg aircraft, day VFR.

It actually depends on what sort of aircraft you want to fly. If you mean the usual rental fleet, cessna, piper, etc, you get better treatment than pilots with uk licences after April 7th.
