Where to go......

Needs a damned fine caff.

Open on a Monday/Bank Holiday.

I know, we will visit the Black Countraaaay ! So we toddled off to Halfpenny Green for us luncheon. Arrived, virtually no traffic apart from a thrill seeking helicopter rider operator.

Very helpful chap on ATC, got nice and close to the caff as my passenger is mobility challenged shall we say, I would say he is a :pirat: Sorry, can't risk a donk.

Ordered a butty, wandered upstairs and had a chat with ATC, very relaxed and friendly.

Back down, two pots of tea, two most excellent sandwiches - the only niggle I would have is that it wasn't HP sauce...... tsk tsk

Deffo worth a visit whenever you can.

Having had the pleasure of accompanying 2 of my students in the past week to Halfpenny Green on navexes and and hearing reports of students returning from solos there I can wholeheartedly concur. I hadn't been since my own QXC 20 years ago and can't wait to go back. The guys in the tower were exceptionally helpful and understanding and the cafe... whilst I haven't dined there yet due to commercial pressures ( taking off too late!) I did get a drink there and it looked to be full of happy aviators.

I'd also forgotten how pretty the countryside is around there.

Will be back.

Danny.

Went there a few times during training and QXC plus a couple of times since. Bit close to Glos now but it’s a nice airfield and I think I’ll make it a regular jaunt when doing a bit of ‘practice’ and fancy a landaway rather than just a local. I think they also do a ‘land all you can for £35 so a reasonable choice for a bit of circuit practice (they did last year but not sure now).

I concur chaps in the tower very friendly. Food good in the cafe.

A couple of miles away is a decent vineyard and shop too - about 40 min walk or 5 mins in a cab.

By God I must have missed you somehow!
Me and the missus and muttley (who got a free sausage) also in the caff for a latish lunch. Were you in the 7?

Jet/long Ranger doing good business.
Little brown sauce sachets….. :(

The junk shop at the entrance always worth a wander around.

The FISOs are excellent. So helpful to students
Caf does lovely coffee.
Yes, it's very pretty countryside.
Not had chance to mooch in the vintage shop (probably a good thing, too tempting)

We took Anne Bobbitt to lunch in Grimsby when she was over.... She is originally from Grimsby, married a Colonial and went over there.

Had lunch with her and her sister and she presented Nigel and me with our T Shirts !!

The answer is yes, I will build one :thumleft:

I can add that the fire crew are extremely friendly and helpful.

As of last week, it's £40 for touch and goes. I asked nicely and it was a quiet day so the nice chaps in the tower agreed I could do full stops. Didn't end up doing the circuits, but that's a story for another day and a few large glasses of something.
