Where have you been? What have you seen?

I’ve been busy these past three weeks.
It’s interesting getting straight back in to flying instruction in a variety of aircraft and finding that much of my motor skills are still there.
Of particular note was going up to coach a chap in slow rolls in the Super Decathlon; when was the last time I did a slow roll? It went very well.
Then the basics in a Cessna 152, Piper Warrior checkouts, Citabria, and Chipmunk for fun.

A Katana 100 has an oil consumption problem probably indicated by the fact it burps very quickly when doing the oil level check.
The owner insisted on using 100LL in his engine, this according to what he was told when he bought the aeroplane in Ontario. Why go against the manufacturer’s recommendations in this regard?
Lead everywhere! Maybe on the rings too?
I’ve done five flights... The first of 1.2 hours lost 600ml of oil!
I topped up with Chevron 94 octane Mogas and the next flight the engine used no oil! What kind of coincidence is this?
Been running Chevron since with less than 100ml lost each flight... Still too much.
Last flight we took a gauge to measure the crankcase pressure, maximum 8lbs it went over 9lbs, so it’s blowing the oil out, beyond the belly of the aeroplane.

David Lai flew with me on the last of these flights and published a video:

Back in the 1970's I was proud to have my Tiger Club Card signed with "OK all types".
Then I started the Condor Club and that meant flying all kinds of aeroplanes.
Here in British Columbia I'm still expected to fly all kinds of aeroplanes.
Nowadays in England I need a checkout every 28 days, and can't fly the Super Cub if the wind exceeds five knots across the runway... Rules are rules...
I'm busy every day I am willing to go flying:

Back to checking renters out in the Warrior.

A former student needed recurrent training for his RPP.

Next month it will be twenty years since we brought the Chipmunk back from St Hubert, Montreal.

Ice cream after coaching a few slow rolls and the spin.

Then deliver the Super Decathlon to Chilliwack for its annual, and pick up the Citabria from there.
More to come...

Black Tusk above Garibaldi Lake.

Test flying the Katana. The oil consumption dropped dramatically as Chevron Mogas began to shift the lead poisoning.

I've done a couple of seaplane ratings in flying boats in the past. Time to get my five alightings in.

Go and do some aileron rolls with Marilyne, a former occasional CPL student of mine.

Time for another biennial flight review with Christian.
Did it once in an Extra 300L when I put him under the hood.
Then in a Super Decathlon.
This time in a Gamebird... An interesting aeroplane.
Worked on steep turns, stalls and slow flight... and a few other things!
My takeoff, and my landing... If you teach in an aeroplane you should be able to land it.

Surely would want to do a lot of other things in a Gamebird?
... apart from washing it to make it look immaculate.
