I know exactly what you mean. On my recent reval on that stinking hot Stellie day, my instructor "set me up" at a very reduced rmp and 30 degrees flap. OK we've just done a go around in Joburg on a hot day, your engine is giving you all it has....climb away!
Not ashamed to admit first time round, after 90 seconds bitter concentration, I crashed....well flew into the ground level (and OK at 2,000ft). At least I didn't stall, but it can be a fine line sometimes down here and that red lever is definitely there to be used.
