What are you planning? Where shall we go?
#1910861
1000-1600 as usual; free admission and (car!) parking, as ever

Obviously:

a. this commemorates official first flight at Cranwell in May 1941; it had become airborne during fast taxi trials at Brockworth in April, so (as so often :) ) Gloucestershire got there first

b. this is 81st anninversary, but lockdown prevented the planned 80th anniversary commemoration

We still don't know if 09/27 and museum's taxiway (R) and apron will have reopened for fly-ins.

Speakers at 1330 (see below)

Free raffle for various aviation goodies, extra displays, plus usual JAM attractions

"We were unable to celebrate the 80th anniversary due to Covid restrictions, so, the next best thing – we are celebrating the 81st! No forgetting of course that the 1st unofficial flight was at Brockworth on 8 April 1941, so a very significant event for Gloucestershire. On the day we hope to have former jet pilots; Ian Whittle, our Patron & son of Frank Whittle, John Lewer, our Vice President, and volunteer Peter Branthwaite, former Vulcan and Buccaneer pilot, with us for an ‘Audience with Jet Pilots’;

There will be a free raffle for those attending the ‘Audience with….’. Prizes will include 2 complimentary tickets to see Top Gun: Maverick at the Gloucester Quays Cinema, an author and Ian Whittle signed copy of ‘Jet Man’, and other jet flight associated items. Also, joining us will be aviation charity Fly2Help with their ‘Travelling Airport’ displays, which demonstrate just how the invention and development of the jet engine has changed the world and made air travel so accessible to all!"
