Only if set up to do so.

My understanding from this and other sources is that it's very difficult - if not impossible - to prevent Google from monitoring your activity to an intense degree.

However, as Keef says, Mozilla (or Firefox) + SpyBot is the answer.

Only if you're prepared to change your browser.

You quoted My understanding from this which says:

With the advanced features enabled, Google's free toolbar for Explorer phones home with every page you surf

perhaps you need to read what you are quoting to get a better understanding

you also wrote:Only if you're prepared to change your browser.

It's a jolly good idea to do so, for loads of reasons, of which this thread is one.

Hmm, fair enough. Although it does also say:
For all searches they record the cookie ID, your Internet IP address, the time and date, your search terms, and your browser configuration.
This may not technically be spyware (in fact it looks like it applies even with no third-party software being installed) but it is as far as I'm concerned.

But there are also reasons not to change your browser, and if the original poster's only requirement is the removal of popups then there are other options available.

All
Well it was such a nice day I went for a walk.....

Looking at the logs and speaking to the little monster... its was not her, but rather SHMBO.

Came in via an email I fear, and before you ask;
Adware didn't find it
Spybot didnt see it and
spyblaster didnt sort it either.

In the end I did a web search to find the solution
Moding the Hosts file gave me a rest bite to finding it
127.0.0.1 works wonders on other web site too, when I want the little monster to do as she is told, I have a copy that locks out her fav sites, This sits on the proxy server that only I have access to    *( well I think so  )

Make them a Flyer Mod... far to easy a punishment ( sorry BR) , can I change this to the Mod of another Mags forum instead

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com has lots of good stuf on the subject

IE is not that bad ( ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH ) but If I could move away from it I would,

   feed the penguin

...and in fact AdAware misses a pile of stuff that SpyBot deals with easily, as I found when cleaning out a lovely porno dialer that had infected a neighbour's PC. Left them with a copy of SpyBot, a firewall and a stern instruction to never click OK or Yes or Confirm when some dodgy web site pops up a confirmation dialog!

I hate to break it to you, but every single web server in the world records nearly all that information, every time you visit. If this worries you at all, I'd unplug your computer now if I were you. ;) :D
