So I buy some Beatles memorabilia, but I can't actually have it.
I must be getting old - I really don't understand how or why NFTs work in this instance.
Help!
(see what I did there?)

I don't see mushroom for that in the future.

I agree with you - I don't get it.
An NFT is a good way to prove ownership of an asset - digital or otherwise. What this seem to be is an image of an item, and an audio file with someone talking about the item.
You don't get the item.

What is to stop the guy taking a second ( or third, or forth...) picture, and selling that?

Just seems like someone wants a licence to print money.

It seems to me that an NFT is simply final and incontrovertible evidence that the whole human race is barking mad.

"I have something for sale."

"Oh, what is it?"

"3/5ths of FA squared. Would you like it?"

"Oh, yes please. In fact, I'll have two."

Barking.

I think the seller has rather missed the point.

If an NFT is just a thing that asserts you own a non physical thing.

He could have made up some much better ones.

“The feeling of being put to bed as a young child by John Lennon”.

“The emotions of Breakfast with John Lennon”

He just needs to describe them on tape.
I don’t think his NFTs are very good NFTs

Of course there are always the King's new clothes to admire as you enter the hallowed circle of believers....

Or, maybe my scepticism is the reason why I'm not a person of high net worth?

Yes.
And surely the whole point of memorabilia is to own the actual physical thing. To hold in your hand the actual atoms.
Anything else is pointless.

I kinda get the move to NFT, tbh.

The world transitioned from analog to digital over the past 25 years.

Copyright law has struggled to keep up - and in some places (e.g Belgium) their well meant attempts at legislation has ended up with creepy 1984-esque results.

Hark back a bit, and remember that piano music was heavily copyrighted - as the only way the “content creator” could benefit from his or her creation was via copyright.

Digital media is - by definition- a singular unit of urine to copy.

Sure - this whole NFT thing is the “Wild West”, but I do actually see genuine merit
