the locals. It's outsiders, including outsider cartographers, who do not know the language can find them difficult, or get them amusingly wrong :)

Reports of waves >10m high, runways covered in ash so nobody can land, ash cloud hampering even satellite phone comms.

Oh, and the Tonganese government probably won't let aid / rescue workers off the planes and ships that do manage to get in because of Zero Covid policy.

You need a third image @eltonioni - You have before eruptions a few years ago and before the latest eruption.
Latest images show it almost no longer exists.
