Saw the headline for this story on the front page of the DT (on the BBC news website daily images of front pages; obviously, I dont buy it
). Their readership demographic just might be particularly interested ..
Here is the full article online, but available in full only for subscribers:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/1 ... penalised/So it's not '
will be treated kindly' but '
should be made to take fitness to drive tests and eye exams instead of being hit with points on licence, says task force'.
To try to find out more about this 'task force', I found this more accessible article:
https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/u ... d-22340101This starts 'According to a Government-funded report' and 'The Older Drivers Task Force' 'led by the Road Safety Foundation (RSF)'. It does not suggest to me that this will definitely lead to any change in the law or the 'sentencing guidelines' .
[Personally, I hope it doesn't. I gave up GA flying with the conscious thought that it was better to give up too soon than too late, recognising that in my personal postflight self-analysis (which I always did) I'd started making a few errors. None had been safety-critical, but one day one might be. I also recalled that my late mother had probably carried on driving for at least a couple of years longer than she should have, although she never had a accident nor an offence AFAIK.]
