The discussion has taken an interesting ‘turn’.
For me, the last year of lockdown/isolation etc, has never particularly been about whether
my life or health will suffer. It’s been about protecting vulnerable people at the end of a chain of infection that my actions could make me part of.
Only this morning on the news there was again footage if some chap in his twilight years waving at his (presumably) grandchildren through glass and another of some other poor dear all masked and face shields sitting 3m apart who hadnt been allowed to be in the same room as her daughter since the summer. Its cruel and drives me nuts seeing this stuff
Whilst the old folks in a care home may not be afraid to die, having lived a full life. What about those loved ones they leave behind who may cause their infection? Personally I’d struggle with the guilt.
What also, about the other occupants at the care home who become part of a chain within the home once the virus is introduced?
Just because I’ve been vaccinated, I don’t see why I should live a life denied to other (younger) people who are currently denied the vaccination.
The only answer is to reduce overall transmission. (Probably by
mass vaccination) Once that is achieved, whether or not
individuals have been vaccinated becomes far less significant.
