You've got newer hardware than me - revision 2.

Perhaps not too many of those out in the field, hence the different software version and the fact that no-one else has seen that version.

You're special at the moment!

I noticed your uptime on dishy is less than three hours. You are leaving it permanently powered? Especially overnight - that's when they seem to do the firmware updates.

I have been leaving the dish (/PoE brick) permanently powered up, but not the router which is not normally connected to anything. The three hours would have been me rebooting it during my testing yesterday.

Humble Pie Alert ...

... with lashings of gravy.

Starlink support have been amazing & they were able to identify "faults firing an alert about a poor ethernet connection"; whilst ALL of my made up leads pass the continuity check I _think_ perhaps one or more were being strained when I closed the data cabinet door. I have now replaced all leads with bought leads, and left the door open. Thankfully the fault(s) were _not_ in the Starlink hardware.

I have run a couple of quick speed tests and I am getting ~210Mbps down over wi-fi, and ~302Mbps down wired, and ~10-13Mbps up over both. This is with using my Unifi USG, and not the Starlink router. Happy Dayz!

Many thanks also for your help on this thread - I don't think I'd have been able to unblock the restrictions within the USG on my own, and I could well see that I might have just returned the dish in a grump.

So .... THANK YOU :thumright:

I now need to mount the dish somewhere more permanent, work out how to see the Starlink "dashboard" without using the Starlink router (if it is indeed possible), and simplify & finalise my cabinet.

The Starlink stats dashboard is served by dishy, not the router. You just need to add an additional static route...

...but I believe you can't do this if you're already using both WAN ports...

So if you need the stats page, -and- want to still use your DSL line for external stuff, you'll have to leave the Starlink router in place. It doesn't really matter and will do no harm.

The USG is a bit of a PITA if I'm honest.

I half thought that if I wired it up Dishy > PoE > Starlink Router > USG_WAN_1 I would fall foul of "double NAT-ing" - whatever that may be. Am I wrong with that?

The USG is, for me at least, _almost_ past it's suitability / usefulness; I would be tempted to swap it for a UDM-Pro, but will wait for the UDM-Pro-SE (which has sold out on the Early Access platform, and not available from Ubiquiti or BBB yet).

PS My BBB slim Cat 6 cables arrived this morning. They are verrrrry nice indeed. Amazing that they can get Cat 6 through such a tiny cable! 8)

Well it's already NATted so it doesn't matter...

UDM isn't much better than USG and in some regards is worse. If you want to stay in the UniFi family, you might be better off going EdgeRouter but you don't get the pretty UI and cloud management.

Or abandon ship altogether and go for Mikrotik or FireBrick but there's a hell of a learning curve with either of those. Both are several orders of magnitude more flexible than USG or UDM. Mikrotik absolutely cheap as chips as well - the performance+features / price ratio is off the scale. They are insanely good value for money.

Yes, every rack I've built this year I've used those skinny patch leads - so sexy... They get away with still meeting Cat6 certification because they're only short.

My understanding of the UDM-Pro-SE is that the processor is fast enough to run greater than 100Mbps (actually up to 1Gbps IIRC) with all of the Intrusion stuff turned on, and at least the ports have PoE. The WAN1 / WAN2 Failover mode is still limiting though. The Unifi CCTV stuff is of little interest to me though.

I'm not ready to leave the cozy comfort of the Unifi UI yet - it is so approachable & "nice" to use.

Does it matter whether I wire it up Dishy > PoE > Starlink Router > USG_WAN_1 or just hang the Starlink router off from a LAN switch? I am not sure whether the Starlink router is needed in the inbound flow, or be "just" another device connected to the LAN.
