Together, Arnold Clark and Seat Cupra have beaten me into submission.

Last night, watching Floodlands (possibly best avoided but at 6/8 of the way through we are committed) I thought "If I see that bloody woman who thinks she's lost her car keys one more time..."

Against all my instincts I opted to pay the £3.99/month and rid myself of ads and bumpers.

So far so good, it has transformed watching the usual noir-fests and shortened the duration of each episode appreciably.

The only downside is you do get the occasional briefish trail within the programme, irritating but nowhere near as bad as watching the repetitive and frequent ad breaks.

Is this the start of the slippery slope? Apart from Prime, which brings other benefits, we have never had a television / film subscription. Is this the gateway drug that will have me pouring money into the Dirty Digger's bank account within months?

I'd not thought of that, but frankly for less than four quid a month I think I'll settle for the sub.

I was given a (basic) Netflix voucher for a recent birthday present. I'm not going to activate it before the winter, lest I watch even more TV than I now do (or record for 'later') from Freeview alone. I don't want watching to eat into my 'daylight' tasks, eg in the garden or allotment

I almost ever watch TV on a computer these days & use a free adblocker (AdBlock Pro, beware similar sounding alternatives) and the Brave browser and for some reason it strips out ALL ad breaks and previews etc on Channel4 catch up. Brave also replaces the white "letterbox"'ing that Safari puts on the screen with black bars which is much more user-friendly.

Never has Walter Presents been more enjoyable to watch ...

Suggesting to Mrs P that we watch tele on a computer would really not be worth the effort, but interesting all the same.

Why would I need that when my phone casts happily to the tele, most of the time?

Really guys, £3.99 a month hardly warrants desperate work-arounds

We've got the lot: Amazon Prime /Firestick, Netflix , Britbox, Youtube/Vevo , Sky as well as a telly which does terrestrial freeview stuff: BT even offered us BT Sport as a freebie but we declined that.

Not to mention Apple Music on iThingies....

But the trouble is,we never get time to watch any of it: Haven't watched a 'box set' for over three years.

Heavy pruning needed methinks.....

I had a night in alone last night and for light relief selected the film The Hitman's Apprentice from Prime.

I had assumed it was part of the Hitman's Bodyguard franchise ( Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson) and was a bit surprised when it turned out to be far more Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels-style, all British.

It's worth a watch. IMHO better, more intelligent, than the Hollywood stuff.

Thinking about it, it owes quite a lot to In Bruges.
