First noticed Jodie Comer as the wayward daughter in the first Doctor Foster series and felt she had great things to come

I had a similar thought watching, the then virtually unknown, Carey Mulligan totally smash the role of Sally Sparrow in Blink. She too hasn't disappointed.

I think you'd have been aware if Elizabeth Jennings had tried to seduce you. :D

Tue 2 Mar 1340, Film4: "The way to the Stars" (1945)

Written by Terence Rattigan (wartime RAF); starring Michael Redgrave, John Mills, Stanley Holloway and similar greats among British; Douglass Montgomery (US, but wartime RCAF) , Bonar Colleano (US, but UK resident) among Americans

Notable for its sensitive (and, for the year, bold) portrayal of (initial) tension between RAF and USAAC personnel at a bomber base; and for a very early appearance of Jean Simmons as an unnamed singer. Definitely recommended.

I recorded this on kanga's recommendation, and watched it yesterday. Two observations:

1. The Home Guard was mentioned a couple of times. Private Frazer clearly hadn't signed up yet. His career appears to have gone from boffins to coffins. Further, he was more optimistic back them. He didn't say "we're doomed" once.

2. The boffins weren't that smart. Even I know Skydemon on an iPad works better for navigation than the stuff they were developing. Much lighter to carry as well.

again, not streaming but broadcast, and tomorrow morning. Only just seen it in RT..

Monday 8 March, 1140, Talking Pictures, Freeview 81

The Sound Barrier (1952)

Very much of its era including cast, and aerodynamics and other physics more than a bit dodgy, but entertaining and nostalgic. Again written by Terence Rattigan :thumright:

I wonder how much talking pictures would make if they started a streaming site to go with the broadcast channels. We aren’t on Sky so I miss quite a lot of the good stuff on this channel as I can’t record.

@Paultheparaglider linked to a (hilarious) clip from "Yes Prime Minister" in another thread. That got me thinking: I haven't found either that or the preceding "Yes Minister" on any streaming service. Anyone knows if they're available anywhere? Pay-per-view would be fine, but I don't buy physical discs anymore since I've chucked my DVD player.

You can find uploads on Youtube, but the technical quality is not good: probably from someone's old VCR tapes.

Thanks @malcolmfrost and @low&slow . :thumleft:

I have to slightly circumvent the terms and conditions first by claiming to live in the UK and then by using my VPN service. But I've already done so in BBC iPlayer. :D (Can't understand why iPlayer isn't open everywhere, at least for BBC's own content.) Since I can't install a VPN client on my smart TV (and don't want to do it on my router) I'll have to watch on my tablet. But that's fine.

(One of the user mentions is messed up. Not my fault: the function doesn't work well with usernames with special characters.)

@akg1486 ,

They are actually showing the Yes, Minister series currently on BBC4 on Tuesday evenings and you may be able to catch up with some on iPlayer.

Also, although it might not be what you want, the series of Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister were also made available in a series of books. I have a hardback set, and found them an enjoyable read. It is a long time since I read them, but I seem to remember they were pretty true to the TV programmes. A few choices are available.
