[Other] non-partisan politics nerds may find this interesting listening:

Recommendation from me today: The Terror on BBC iPlayer.

Terrific, dark and with an extraordinary cast. Exec produced by Ridley Scott and there are shades of his early influence in there.

Enjoy!

I watched first episode, knowing some of those involved in the expeditions which found first the Erebus and then the Terror .. now that is a story well worth telling; there has been an excellent documentary on the former ("Hunt for the Arctic Ghost Ship"), shown on Ch4:

https://www.channel4.com/programmes/hun ... ghost-ship

I also know vicariously the British High Commissioner to Ottawa at the time who was involved in the legal process by which the ownerships of the vessels and most of the artefacts recovered were formally passed from RN to Government of Canada and the Inuit; admirable :thumright:

But on this new series: I was disappointed; it was cast and acted, generously produced (in Romania according to the credits, IIRC!); but with scifi too farfetched, and somewhat arrogantly projecting popular imagery onto the Inuit. Perhaps because I knew much of the now well-researched story, I gave up.

@Colonel Panic

And with the lovely Marie Dompnier from Les Tremoins / Witnesses as a special bonus.

We watched episode one last night. It didn't instantly grab me. Does it get better?

We had earlier binged "Traces" on BBC iPlayer. This was a fascinating oddity in that it was 6 x 45 minutes, possibly a legacy from its original production for a commercial channel (Alibi)

Set in Dundee it's the story of a girl returning to the city where her mother had been murdered years before. Some fascinating forensics, and lots of suspects. No subtitles, but I only missed a smattering of the script.

By E4 it speeds up, and the whodunnit element increases. It's all a bit girly (is one allowed to say that these days?), but I am enjoying it. Sammi from Engrenages also joins the throng ...

PS Marie D is indeed a special bonus.

I imagine that those who follow these sorts of things already know about it, but season 3 of Drive to Survive--the documentary series that follows the Formula 1 circus--was released a few days ago on Netflix. I've watched it, and it's as good as the previous two.

Not necessarily streaming but on Freeview 81, Talking Pictures:

Monday 22 April, 1030, 'Cone of Silence', 1960:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054762/

"In Britain, at the dawn of jet-powered commercial aviation, an aircraft manufacturer tries to shift the blame from mechanical failure to pilot error when its newest jet airliner has a series of accidents."

Several British greats of the era: Peter Cushing, Bernard Lee, Gordon Jackson, ..
