MikeE wrote:A bit of spin there by the BBC. As far as I'm aware the Government promised to 'offer' everyone a booster jab before New Year's Day rather than 'give' everyone a booster. The offer, I think, was achieved. 'Giving' everyone a jab was unachievable.

Mike

What's that? More Or Less inventing its own questions to get the desired answers again? Surely not!

I'd rather go the China than Canada, at least whilst Trudeau is still around. Does anyone in Greece pay tax?

Like I said before, why even have the 'free' west. The State owns your body in Canada. It's a slippery slope. Why "significant", what's the end date seeing as Omicron seems to be the way out. Will Canadians still be paying it in 90 years?

Is more and more out of whack the less severe covid gets.

This was a decision by the government of the Province of Québec, not that of the federal government of Canada. There's a lot more devolved autonomy in Canada than in China :?

And, yes, people in Greece do pay taxes

Devolved government is just a smaller part of 'state' - It's alright for you lot. I have to live with these rules for the next 60* years. Once powers come in they rarely come out.

I suppose they have said it's a "contribution" - it's just being dressed up as a 'tax' so will probably be a temporary measure. Bit like the 'Bedroom Tax' versus the less catchy but more accurate 'Removal of the spare room subsidy'

Relationship between GoC and Provincial and Territorial governments is established by fully patriated Constitution and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms enforced by an independent Supreme Court. Health and Provincial taxes are devolved.

More news from Quebec: unvaccinated father loses court bid to extend visiting access hours to his children, because children too young for vaccination:

[For those less nerdish about Canadian politics: the Party in power in Quebec is that of opponents, especially among francophones, at both Provincial and Federal level of the Party whose leader is the current Federal PM. So these 3 recent stories from Quebec are of no wider relevance in the rest of Canada.

All Provinces have their own laws and related courts, always subject to the Constitution and Charter. The laws vary considerably between them. The legal system in all Provinces varies but is broadly analogous to those of England & Wales, but bilingual where appropriate. ]

Encouraging that Gloucestershire has had the highest booster uptake in England. Our centre's walk-in sessions were very well attended in December, I assume mostly from people not registered with local GPs:

US Supreme Court blocks USG mandate that large private employers should insist that unvaccinated staff wear masks and are regularly tested, but allows equivalent mandate for Federally-funded healthcare settings. Block is on Constitutional argument of 'Federal Agency overreach':

Just so you have someone else to talk to

On the flip side... not happened yet. But one can hope.

Maybe I'll get my 3rd booster after the passes go - As after they go it means I'm not complicit in this authoritarian nanny state BS.

You might as well have #3 since it's not going to go to anyone who needs it more and every jab is a step closer to HMG not having any more excuses about other measures.

Anyway, it's over, unless you're vulnerable in which case protect yourself while everyone else gets back to what passes as normal.

In other news;
The UK economy is now back to pre-pandemic levels, unlike all those places where authoritarians, autocrats and technocrats are still contemptuously pushing around citizens. I hear that French teachers are on strike - roll on the election.
