So they were flown back on a 20(?) hour flight with any one or more of them already possibly infected.
Then they are relieved to be out in the fresh British air.
Then they are put up in apartments where they, in some cases, are sharing apartments with strangers from the same flights, and are allowed to mix with all the other returned in the block and in the common areas. Thus ensuring if they escaped catching it on the flight they will surely get it in the apartment block if one of the other isolated has it.

Does that seem like madness to you?

From my point of view, they would have been better left in China. The whole thing looked like a PR exercise. Why a 747 to fly 130 people home then a fleet of 5 or 6 coaches for 80 people. I noticed there was a person on each coach in full protective gear but the driver had none. Do the drivers now need to be quarantined as well?

Yes, it creates the opportunity (in the event that one or more of them are infected) to study human to human transmission in controlled circumstances
Not very nice for those contained but there is of course a bigger picture.

That's what I thought, maybe they are being used as guinea pigs. To see who gets it, who doesn't, who survives, lots of samples.... looks like the place is geared up for guests (fire instructions on door) so may have central air-conditioning/heating like a hotel.

Why are they even sharing flats with strangers? Government saving money in the face of such a threat?
Or they really do want cross-contamination..

.. with concomitant tendency to believe that anything 'they' do must be one or the other, with greater likelihood of former, when 'they' do something which is actually both sensible and impressively well organised.

One of the passengers flown back to the UK from China on Sunday following the coronavirus outbreak has been taken to hospital after feeling unwell.

The 11 British nationals arrived from Wuhan, the centre of the outbreak, and were expected to join 83 other people who were evacuated last week.

However, Wirral Council said one of the passengers felt ill during the flight and "self-isolated immediately".

The other 10 passengers were taken to Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral.

A Wirral Council statement said: "None of the other new arrivals have shown any symptoms, but as a precautionary measure they were allocated rooms in a separate area of the facility, isolated from those already there."
