Surely it doesn't matter if the person understands the system or not, as long as it comes out of one app, gets communicated, and gets put into another app?

I could arrange to meet you at "6MHH+9M Frome" for example. You might have no idea what system that's using. But put it into Google Maps and it'll work, and you don't need to care how that happened.

Sure, people might struggle to communicate funny symbols. But as long as they're numbers, letters or words, it's the same, if we take accuracy out of the equation (as argued already).

Is this not just another Ec Thread in the making , the point is they all serve the same purpose the difference being that the user may feel more comfortable using one over the other.

The main advantage of W3W is the gross error checking. If you get a digit or two wrong in a coordinate the result could be quite feasible and the rescue services or your drinking mate could be trying to find you 10 miles away. An error in W3W might cause them to look in Ukraine or wherever, so should immediately show up as an obvious mistake .

The point is that there are a few instances where the slight change (e.g. a plural) puts the location not far away - as per the articles previously mentioned.

///circle.goal.leader vs. ///circle.goal.leaders

Being a prime example - 2km apart.

Hmm, maybe they’ve fixed those.

Edit…
Actually the two are:

///circle.goal.leader and ///circle.goals.leader

Even the bbc article mixed up the plural words!
