In fiction, I've recently enjoyed reading a trilogy by Jonathan Coe that starts with "The Rotters Club", set in early 70's Brum and moving forward following a group of school friends. It was creepily reminiscent of my own social history that started in Cheltenham a few years earlier!

I've done to death the historical naval fiction that started for me with Abrey/Maturin and Bolitho.

My non-fiction has tended to be biographies; I really enjoyed Keith Richards', and Graham Nash's. I actually also enjoy political biographies and Peter Mandelson's was pretty good, though I've not been able to bring myself to read Tony Blairs yet. I have Shirley Williams' bio on the shelf to read sometime.
