Precisely !
If you are already in the LH lane and some clueless oaf is 'cruising' down the middle lane with his brain in neutral ; what is the safest option ?
He is hardly likely to make a knee-jerk manoeuvre into the inside lane is he ?
Although it's amazing how many actually twitch as I pass them in 'my' lane, the one in which the traffic (me) is moving quicker. Clearly they've no idea who is near them, approaching, maintaining a distance...any of it.
I just drove home via the M25 which was practically empty. Three or four sets of up to half a dozen cars bimbling along at about 60mph in lane 2 with absolutely no other traffic in any other lane. They're like sheep, one does it so they follow.
And...AND.....speeds. Roadworks, lane closures so reduced speed limits. Or sections of smart motorway with the time/distance cameras on them. Why do people drop to the imposed limit BUT STAY IN THE OUTSIDE LANE?! Are the others strewn with anti-vehicle mines or caltrops or something? Either move over or at least accelerate to the actual limit (as any fule no, car speedos under-read and no Sengupta, this is not where you post a picture of a pair of budgie smugglers). Enough of us have satnav devices depicting speed, it's like IAS/TAS, clueless bunch.
I'm going for a lie down.
