Or have they just extracted more money from the EU coffers?
Just got back from 2 weeks in the car, Newhaven, Dieppe, Troyes, Geneva, day trip to Annecy, Beaulieu sur Mer, Ceva (S of Turin) and return.
Even the most rural roads were better surfaced than anything in England, towns seemed neat tidy and well cared for, road white lines were being done and kept fresh, no traffic holdups except around Lake Annecy, but on a blazing hot Sunday that's forgiveable.
On the Autoroutes the tolls do add up, c E45 from Geneva to Dieppe plus the same for either the Mont Blanc or Frejus tunnel, which would cover a significant chunk of our annual road tax.
Dieppe ferry terminal updated and modern, Newhaven...........poor.
Or is it just population density and we are getting like rats crammed into smaller and smaller spaces?
At the moment the UK feels run down, poor quality, and shabby.
