Peter Firmin, the co-creator of Clangers, Bagpuss and Basil Brush, has died at the age of 89, it has been confirmed.

Mr Firmin also helped create other classic children's shows such as Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog.

Those of us who are of a certain age smile at that list of programmes.

The Clangers are back and very popular! They retain the proper knitted stop-motion animated characters of the original and are now narrated by Michael Palin. https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/shows/clangers

Basil Brush was back not that long ago, he was a common reference point for me and my son, now 21, when he was about 10.

I was very impressed recently to hear that an ex-apprentice with me back in the 1980s who left engineering for TV and radio once got to interview Basil Brush.

Great to hear that Clangers are back, must have a word with some under tens that I know to get them interested. It worked with Snoopy the WWI flying ace a couple of years ago!
