I’m a humans doctor and we are not supposed to treat animals.....
I’d say the following though
Cats are mammals and are similar to humans in many respects (yep I know there are differences too)
Steroids lower the immune system so presumably this is why the virus has come out
A human with a virus would be treated with antiviral medications which are available for some viruses (eg tamiflu for influenza) as well as general supportive medicines depending on where the virus is attacking eg fluids IV for dehydration or nebulisers if there is respiratory distress
Sometimes steroids are given too to reduce the inflammation caused by the virus which I know sounds odd due to their effect on the immune system but depends on the clinical condition
Most viruses will be killed off or rendered dormant provided the damage they do can be controlled whilst the body mounts the immune response
