is there a way to open windup files without having to buy a licence (my trial licence has run out)

Does right-clicking in Windows File Explorer work for you? (Not sure if you're a Mac-man)

How about "Winzip"?

There's also 7zip which I use which also has the advantage of opening rar files.

You're on your Mac? It natively opens ZIP files anyway. What have you broken now?

Nothing as far as I know!

It just invited me to pay for winzip and you know me, I am tight!

Don't think I have broken anything major since last October. Quite impressed really.

Uninstall WinZip - then all should be well

Another way to fix would be to right click on any ZIP file and select 'Get Info'

Change 'Open with:' back to 'Archive Utility' (it's a green icon and should be at the top of the list) and click 'Change All...' underneath.

That will reset the default handler for ZIP files back to the built-in tool.
