I try to keep my political geekery non-partisan, but I do like UK politicians and others in public life and commentary thereon to be clear and accurate about matters of history. There is nothing inaccurate with this official announcement:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/inte ... out-the-uk

.. nor, as far as it goes, with this gloss on it:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41601014

.. but this report seems to have the flavour of an 'off the record' background briefing from the SoS Private Office (although it may just be lazy journalism):

https://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/20 ... -of-trade/

First, the title of President of the Board of Trade had never gone away (even though no multimember Board had actually met for a long time). Secondly, the BoT was the official formal issuer of Aeronautical Licences for both people (eg PPL, including my own, whose cover has 'BoT') until creation of CAA in early '70s; and it may also have had analogous responsibilities for merchant mariners until 'quite recently' (in my terms). Also, another, quite recent, previous SoS (at DTI) revived for himself the active use of the title of 'President of the BoT' (which was correct, but the usage had fallen into abeyance).

Chuka Umanna made 2 blatantly incorrect statements on GMB this morning, surprisingly not picked up by the interrogators.
First he stated 'negotiations with the EU started 15 months ago'
No we voted to leave the EU 15 months ago; negotiations only started in April this year.
Second he stated 'since we left the EU in June 2016'.
Wish we had done!
