We currently have an Audi A4 tdi S Line Quattro and the process for finding a replacement is just starting so we're seeing what else is out there. The car is used for business and will end up having higher than average mileage so we're not looking at specialist or sports models.

It needs to have four doors and be comfortable for long journeys and economical as well as reliable.

The A4 fits the bill (although we have had reliability issues recently) and it's our second one in succession but we're looking at a trying something else.

So far we've discounted BMWs and Mercedes because we don't like the look of any of them (Yes, some might find the A4 boring but one man's.......).

One car that has grabbed our attention is the Jaguar XE. It's within the price range and my wife likes the look of it which is very important.

Does anyone out there have any experience, good or bad, of the XE that they'd like to share?

A work colleague has an XE as a company car and having been a back seat passenger a few times I felt it lacked leg room and the view was restricted by high door sides and smallish windows. The roof line doesn't help as it all feels a bit claustrophobic. If you have kids might be OK but as an adult I wouldn't want to do more than half an hour as a back seat passenger.
I had an A4 estate and the leg room wasn't much better but the view out and roof height was good.

My colleagues is now a year old and has been reliable with the exception of the air con which seems to fall over regularly. The car itself hasn't let him down though.
My A4 clocked over 100,000 and didn't miss a beat.

If I had to choose I would go for the A4 although my current is a Skoda Superb which is cavernous, has a decent level of kit and is great value for money - which is why I can afford to learn how to fly.....

They are on a Jaguar platform, called iQ, made with lots of aluminium.
