The Kissimmee Bum wrote:Seriously however, that SkyCowboy lid you linked to is bliddy expensive for what it is. The name alone sets alarm bells ringing within me. It also offers little in side of noggin protection other than that afforded by the headset ear shells.

If that however is the sort of kit you are looking for I should look at the Icaro Solar X paramotor helmet which is available in the UK at about half the price and was utilised by the crew of that electric round the world job a couple or more years back. I think MicroAvionics do them fully rigged out. I briefly considered them for use myself but took the cheapskate way out.

Thanks for that, very interesting option. Certainly looks like the Bose A20 can be adapted to fit in the same way that Skycowboy do with theirs, I wouldn't want to give up my Bose.

My microlight instructor said several times that he thought a helmet would be a good idea (I don’t think it was an indictment of my landings… :P)

Despite that, I don’t think he actually wore one. Except when flying a flexwing where it’s not really optional!

Before I hung up my headset I wore a bump cap and was quite seriously considering a helmet eg from Microavionics. There’s lots of tubes and things inside the average 3-axis microlight. I also recall some AAIB reports where head injuries were a factor.
