Hi everyone,

I am planning to book my LAPL medical in the next few weeks and was wondering how different it is to the class 2 medical?

Is a spirometry (lung function test) required for the lapl or only the class 2?

Thanks in advance

Hi James,

I can't comment on the differences but I had my initial Class2 last year. As I have mild asthma I contacted the AME beforehand to ask if I could provide any medical evidence to help. He asked me to get a ltr from my GP confirming any meds, treatment or incidents. In fact my GP was very helpful and went as far as giving info supporting my fitness to fly.
On the day it was just a standard peak flow meter, and as the reading was well within tolerance I didn 't need any more detailed investigations.

If you have already booked, perhaps a quick email to the AME will provide the info you want, and you could offer to get more details from your GP if that would help provide the AME with a clearer picture.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Spirometry is not a standard test for either the Class 2 or LAPL medical.

For those who have asthma a letter from the GP may be helpful, those who have more severe asthma may need to get an assessment done with a chest physician.
