when I actually am “final to land 04 GXX” however I think standard phraseology is just final isn’t it, another bad habit I have?


Depends.

If at a non radio airfield, or one where the radio is not always monitored on the ground, knowing which way or which runway an aircraft is landing on can be quite useful :thumright:

I learned, back in the dark ages

"Downwind One Eight, left hand, Touch and go" (or full stop ")

Followed by" Final"

No runway number attached to the latter as you had already identified the runway with your downwind call.

This at a FISO field.
