I`m getting extremely annoyed, when I take a mock PPL exam test online I get 60% wrong. Where can I get the latest laws that are current?? Here`s a sample question: An aircraft flying above the sea between 4,500 feet MSL and 9,000 feet MSL outside controlled airspace under VFR, must remain at least: Answer: Clear of clouds and in sight of surface; 8km Visibility. My paperwork says : in Class G (Uncontrolled airspace), between 3000ft & 10,000ft MSL , 1500m horizontally from cloud & 1000ft visibility, who the hell is right?? I can give you more questions if you want. a VERY aggravated Ian

I also struggled with just the books I also used this https://gs.merseyflight.co.uk/

Covers all the topics, massive question bank and mock exams, you also get access to an examiner, on each question you get wrong if you still don’t understand the explanation you can discuss with someone who knows.

I think airlaw is free or a section of it is so give it a go.

@iantruckers you have my deepest sympathy I learned to fly 20 years ago and struggled in a similar way, worse yet I did an IR and the theory had to be passed and involved 200 hours ground school almost all of it useless.

Just grit your teeth get the best help as suggested above and view it as a hurdle to be jumped.

Skyway Code helps:

https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CA ... _INTER.pdf

Published by the CAA and updated 2019. See page 58 for your answer. Does this match?

CAP 493 I think is the definitive rule book (can someone with experience correct me of wrong please?!)

https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP493_28DEC2017(P).pdf

Also update here: https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CA ... 020-07.pdf

I’m still going through my PPL so I don’t know how updates are distributed to qualified pilots. Again if anyone qualified can comment that would be super handy to know! (I probably should know this... )

Thanks

iantruckers wrote:Thank you but I really think that it's really unfair for the CAA /EASA etc to keep changing the laws without advertising them or having them available...

That's not the way it works, changes are widely advertised and more available now than has ever been the case.

This helps keep me up to date:

Above 3000ft, the answer should be 1.5km horizontally & 1000ft vertically from cloud, 5km vis.

But the reality is that 5km vis is really not cool at that kind of altitude because your horizon disappears... And a regular occurrence in summer (over France for sure) is that the few/scattered clouds get bigger towards you such that you end up skimming 500ft from the tops and the gaps get smaller so that cruising at FL55/FL65/FL75 you decide to decend through a gap which for sure isnt 3km in size...

...just sayin'...

@iantruckers the very fact that dropping out entered your head I think deserves note. IMO, of course, flying is often one hurdle after another, often making one think the system is against you. It concerns me something so minor, if frustrating, has had such and impact. :?

Relax a little and try to roll with it...'cause it's worth the frustrations and they'll just keep on coming! :D :thumright:
