The question that so often is asked on fora. Frankly when I did spinning and recovery on Tomahawk I was concentrating on looking out of the front.

This sounds like great news!

Hawarden is cheaper than Liverpool, (their main base & is out of controlled airspace), but has full ATC, so better than some of the schools at small airfields with A/G. (My personal opinion, not written to cause offence).

Now I’m finally happy with the PA38, I may make enquiries to train there.

I think it’s fair comment about hawarden and much less traffic/cheaper. They are a great school and some fab instructors so I’d suggest you give it a go.

My only “hmmm” with hawarden they don’t accept solo circuits apparently but I wonder if that’s just about visiting aircraft as I’m pretty sure a school based out of there would be allowed however I’m waiting for confirmation on that point as I’m hoping I can go from Liverpool to hawarden drop the instructor at the club house do some circuits then head back. Even with the cost of going back and forth from hawarden it would still be cheaper than circuits at Liverpool :( however I suspect I’ll just have to suffer the pain to finish my last circuits to get my solo hours :)

We are told it flexes in an alarming manner. However, since there is no history of tail-less PA38s plummeting into primary schools or puppy farms I think we can accept "it does that" and get on with enjoying the best of the previous generation of basic trainers.

It doesn't happen on most other trainers because unlike the PA38 they aren't cleared for spinning.

plan to start ops in a few weeks so sounds positive they will be open before Xmas subject to lockdown/rules.

The cafe over at hawarden looks pretty good also I’m keen to give that a try as much as anything :)

I have my medical on Friday in Hawarden (not looking forward to it), but if there is someone at the schools i will try and go speak to them. Im in early days with learning and Hawarden will be better all round for me.

Good luck, I don’t know if they are open yet but I’m at Liverpool airport tomorrow weather and ATC permitting so I’ll get what info I can from them :)

From the current NOTAM good luck finding a slot to get a lesson in :)
