Do factor in the additional costs though. Hangarage for a fabric aeroplane in the London area will be at least £350 a month, or if you buy something suitable for outside parking, maybe £150 a month. Insurance for learning, well, for a "GA" aeroplane I've heard it can be £5000 a year, I don't know what a microlight would be but I'd suspect at least £2000 a year.

Make sure you have enough in the bank put aside for maintenance and possible engine overhaul (maybe £7000-£10000 for a microlight, £20,000-£30,000 for "GA").

I believe the U.K. NPPL(m) converts straight to a NZ equivalent. Just the usual check flight plus mountain flight training if I recall correctly.
