Hours required also depend upon your age, I should know, I'm 67! Allow one hour per year, minimum. Regardless, learning is fun as well and you get someone to talk to (even if you don't always want to hear what they say).

I'm paying £149/hr and have about 40 hours logged so far. Have a few solo navs under my belt, but I know I still have a way to go. I've had a couple of breaks due to work/weather etc. which has probably set me back. Overall I expect I will pay around £9500-10000. Other things to budget for are the books (study pack 'bundle is about £250), charts and the exams at £20 a pop.

Whereabouts in the country are you? There are options out there that are not your typical flight school. A mate of mine is paying £80/hr for instruction in a PA28 Cherokee - absolute bargain!
