Your link is to a 'scanner' not a radio i.e. receiver only:

To be perfectly honest you would be much better off spending a bit more and buying a transceiver which you can keep in your flight bag as a hedge against radio failure....

Make sure it's 8.33Hz configured.

Also useful when you visit busy airfields for calling for start up without the need to switch on master and a/c radios to make the call then switch them off again to operate starter . (you'll understand better when you start visiting bigger airfields)

I wouldn't rely on 'learning the language' from what you may hear.
What is said and what is required to be said can be quite different in the minds of some pilots :wink:
