We've been having intermittent issues with our stall warner in the Jodel - old one stopped working consistently, so replaced with "new old stock" ones (1970s vintage) but each one subsequently stopped working consistently (that is, on the ground, manually actuated).

Advice we received was to try spraying contact cleaner (we've been using Deoxit D5) into it. This gets it working for a bit longer but it stops again after a month or so (so looks like a microswitch issue which then re-occurs).

We're trying to decide whether to replace the unit with new, the microswitch to a more modern one, or try other electronic lubrication / grease to see if that we keep the problem at bay.

So I'm wondering if others use products to protect / clean their stall warner? Perhaps Servisol Super 10 (contact cleaner and lubricant) or the further Dioxit products (Gold or Fader series)? Or are modern micro switches so well sealed that this problem no longer occurs on new products?

Thanks - we could replace with new although just replacing the switch may be an option. There are thousands of switches available which are water resistant so just a matter of finding an appropriate one. The new old stick ones come from old bulldog spares - they fit nicely but...

If lubricant can find it's way in, stands to reason that damp can!

I'd soak it in methylated spirit / isopropanol then , after a good blow- out with an airline, dry in a warm place for 24 hours then try to infiltrate with a silicone-spray. (available from drapery/sewing machine/upholstery suppliers, it's used to make vinyl slide through the machine, when sewing it  ) Also an excellent clean/shine agent for cockpit trim, car dashboards etc. Unlike WD40, type fluids does not seem to leave an oily film, but an invisible lubricant.

p.s. RS do a large range of microswitches in robust industrial automation configurations.

edited to add supplier.

Our club aircraft (Robin DR400) went into a local outfit for an engine change 12th Jan. There was a delay in getting a part that was planned to be replaced during engine change which caused several months delay, then they discovered a problem with the canopy "hoop" requiring a part from Robin. ETA now: October. Aircraft was planned to be on the ground for a month - it will be at least 10. I'm not planning to wait for a part from them for our Jodel!
