Thanks to some advice and friendly help from the flyer forums, I recently rented a 172 out of Uetersen Airfield. Since i've been out here in Hamburg with work, i've been itching to fly, but a bit worried about actually taking the plunge abroad.
I'm just shy of 100 hours (passed PPL last year) so was pretty nervous to be flying abroad, however was impressed (albiet a bit ashamed) that once i'd called up in English, everyone in the circuit changed to English. Now that i've taken the leap, it's taken a lot of fear out of flying abroad. I did have to correct myself from changing the callsign from D-???? to G-????!
I've been informed that Uetersen is one of the biggest GA airfields in Germany and seems to have a lot of activity with a mix of gliding and powered together. Was quite surprised to find that the Glider side was operated by someone from Sheffield and the restaurant was operated by a lady from Hull! The food is great too!
